which was founded in 1993.  Essentially: An Amiga sofware development

"Enigma Systems" was originally established in 1988, when I wrote a
rudimentary database program in C=64 Basic.
In 1992, however, Enigma Systems fell into financial difficulty and a merger
with AR Computers took place early 1993, the two companies forming
"NetWorking UK". While each company keeps copyrights and intellectual
property rights to all the individual things they do, any co-operative work
is done under the name NetWorking.

All true.

AR Computers is my friend's company. :)

Yeah, it's a neat name, not one I had in my head in 1993 I'd admit, and
not being a cat owner I don't tend think of Kitty Cat, but none the

Gawwwwd, everyone has loadsa money, imagine it 'Online Community: afb
aka Amiga Format Bulletin is the first said community to donate to
charities!' A great headline for any paper or indeed a great TV news
article! :))

Well, a cash machine is no use to anyone if the bank account in
question has no money anyway! :)  (Apart from a bout =A320,
whoop-de-whoop! :)  However; I have a nice stash at home, and these
people in Mozambique are worth me sending something to help.

Here's a challenge:

We have 900 subscribers, let's raise =A3500! :)  Go on, we can do it!! It
makes perfect sense and it'll be quite an achievement, sounds like
we've made more than =A350 already... :)  Excellent!

Hi peeps!

I'll keep it short, I know buying a PC I was asking
for trouble.  Well I was trying to optisimise the
machine by fiddling with the BIOS set-up and I seem to
have buggered the computer, it won't boot up anymore
and I don't know how to access the set-up to fix it,
hmmn.  Any one who can help me please email me off the
list.   Sorry for the OT post but you guys are
generally clued up on most things!

Event: afb Charity Appeal
Date:  Saturday March 04, 2000
Time:  12:00 am
Description: Not only can you help to rid afb of the ads again, but you can=
 also help out a charity with a kind donation.  All we ask is a measly =A31 or=
 more if you can afford it, with your generosity we can help the poor people=
 in Mozambique which has suffered complete devistation with many family's in=
 isolation in the middle of a completely flooded country.  Do the good thing=
, do the RIGHT thing and just lend a hand.

Donations should be sent to the usual AF address.

It doesn't seem so if you're on PAYE like me. Mind you tax is something I
don't keep a very careful track of. I'm sure I could claim back a bunch of
my purchases on the ground that "I use them for my work as a journalist"...

I am, so they wont be.  Oh well, who cares?  You probably could get a lot
of tax back, but I guess you'd have to put them through work expenses or
something and then it all gets complicated ...

I know, I have difficulty getting arrangements made for hotel accomodation
in Reading, and I have to travel down from Wigan  :(

No magazine thus far has ever been 'revived' once it's reached the
stapled stage as far as I know.  I remeber how Amiga Power went.  Very
radidly; the pages just fell off the thing, and then one day it was
gone.

However AF has been diminishing very gradually.  It's been years since
AF was fat and healthy, in those happy days when we got free things,
like books.  We haven't had any free (2nd) CDs for over 2 years now.
The number of pages is only diminishing very slowly (over a matter of
years) and the price hasn't changed for ages.

So I reckon AF can hold out for a good while yet, at least until the
new Amiga revolution happens, of course. ;-)

Nope. I'll do a table with a percentage <TD>. I'll have to update it anyway,
so that'll be the simplest way of doing it. Besides which, I don't have cgi
access on my website yet.

It'd be better if you drew a block of colour and shaped an
IMaGe to fit the size inside the table, 'cos the table thing
doesn't always work on all browsers..

Say the maximum is 200 pixels, that way it's easy to work
out the percentage. You only need a 10x10 graphic to
"spread"..

That's all I'd've suggested anyway, but surely a 1x1 Red GIF would do. you
can strech it in any direction, and it's MUCH faster to load. :)

How's that then? A 1x1 gif is no smaller in practical terms than
a 10x10 one, if you only have one colour you'll add a paultry
10 bytes or so IF THAT. And seeing as most PPP transfers are
1500 bytes long..

the loading speed difference is negligable.. (GIF89a, 1 bitplane,
non-interlaced)

I reckon AF can hold out for ages yet... Anyone seen the state of the
Acorn User's Mag? They've been staples for a good while now, have no
floppy edition any more, and only mount a cover CD every 2 months or so,
because they "are afraid of exhausting the Risc-OS Public software
archives."
Yet they're still going. I'd say with confidence that AF has a good while
yet till it even reaches that state...

How about a two page spread sometime next issue (or next)
about programs still available that can run on an emulated 68k mac.

Obviously the Mac is old PPC stuff nowadays but perhaps looking at
stuff that is available on budget labels?  (are there any on the Mac?)

I'm thinking of old 68k games that may now be on a budget release or
perhaps
even some apps, like word processors etc.

What does any one else think?

That was what I first tried, but I got a weird "function argument
expected" error with IBrowse highlighting the first of the -signs.
However, as I tried again today, this time pasting a -sign from a
PC-created page. it worked. It appears my -sign has a different ASCII
(or something) value and the JS parser does not accept it. I am unable
to get the proper quote-sign out of my keyboard as it is a PC one
connected to Power Tower. :( (installing a Finnish keymap did not help)

But, the JS redirection works now. Thanks!

I assume I should replace the mainframe bit with the correct name of the
frame? I am getting an error on IBbrowse (not a function). The other
browsers fare even worse; V does not understand "location" and IIRC
AWeb has no JS support at all. I am getting a similar error if I
attempt:

  frame[2].location.replace(location.href);

It appears these fuonctions are not yet supported. :(

96 Bytes and 106 Bytes, I made it... Our network slowed unbelievably as the
mailservers processed that load. I had Network Support screaming in my ear
and everything...

Last year loads of people sent in cash - most of it in coins admittedly, but
a lot as notes. Just slap whatever you send between two bits of corrugated
cardboard, or in a card and I'm positive it'll get here okay. If it doesn't
I'll make it up myself (oi! No fibbing!).

a 68k Mac (and costs about =A3800 + VAT and I got it for free! Yippee!).

Kind of. Computer Publishing sit next door to us in the office and Nick h=

It generated a great deal of interest when it was first mooted on the CU
mailing list. All sorts of ideas were put forward for its use. People
promised to send scripts and configs in the for CD etc. When it actually
came out...zilch :(

The DIY phase had passed long before the closure, since the person
driving it had left CU. ProjectXG was too ambitious, but AIRlink was
pitched just right. The poor response just demonstrated the low level
of interest in DIY hardware projects.

I think the main thing stopping *ME* from doing any hardware projects
is that it's a complete bitch to get stuff from Maplins. They're right out
of the way behind the train station, next to Office World, and you don't
even know what they have until yo either buy a catalogue or walk in.

And half the staff wouldn't know the difference between their arse and
elbow, let alone two different ICs.

As I was saying about MMULib and a new BlizzardPPC card I'm getting:

Obviously I'll have to install WarpUp as PowerUp is

reason to run PowerUp anymore, right?

But which 68040.library is the best? The phase5 one, the
one that comes with OS3.5, or the MMULib one? Do the
phase5 or OS3.5 ones have any advantages over the MMULib
one?

Will I be able to remove CyberPatcher from my system? I
can't quite work out from the documentation whether the
MMULib makes it obsolete.

I'll also want to use one of the MuTools to remap the
kickstart to fast RAM, rather than using any other method,
won't I?

Right.

phase5 is quicker, but greasier. MMULib is a bit slower, but
much cleaner and more compatible with everything else.. if
you have a BlizzardPPC though, I'm not sure if you can get
rid of the 68040.library (does BPPCFix do that yet?)

Use a " instead. JavaScript accepts single and double quotes. It treat
them the same, but each quote must be paired with one of the same type.

Well it was plugged into my video scart socket and didn't work, so I
thought it might have been the video as a problem, but I bought a

Quadra 900 actually IIRC. Yes I am using an 060, but according to the
docs on the CD this should not be a problem. However, anticipating
your response, I have already tried with no caches (burst and data),
and also with just the Instruction cache on. I have also tried without
SuperScalar mode (just to make sure). I did have a MacII(xi) Classic
512KB rom somewhere (from when I used them at uni), but I don't have
it anymore...on an old HD, so I'm unable to test that.

Under SS IE4.01 with FreePPP was very unstable - usually crashing the
mac within seconds of a connect. Netscape 2 didn't have JS support, so
I found myself NC4.x which works fine... except I didn't have room on
my harfile for both NC and IE, so I had to back up the hardfile and
remove IE. I'm using MacOS 7.5.5 under SS btw. QT3 is a bit funny too,
its control panel crashed the Mac upon invocation, and it has a habit
of crashing when playing and/or converting some MIDI files to QT
movies - but this is irrelevant, since its Fusion that isn't working
;)

I already kind of have. Since I can't use the CGX driver, or the WB
window driver, on account Fusion has the CGX driver hardcoded to look
for V3 cgx library, and the patch for CGX v4 only works on the v3.1
fusion drivers, not the v3.2 I found or v3.3 supplied on the CD, and
the wbw driver won't open a window... driver cannot initialise screen
error (or similar), which leaves me with AGA modes only -> slow screen
refresh in anything but 4 colours (I'm basing that on SS's screen
refresh anyways since I don't know how well Fusion performs)

So, unless a minor miracle is performed, I'll just stick to SS for
now - at least I can get it to boot and run pretty well (and using CGX
too!! =8*)

Hello all,
            Right ho you amigan "pop pickers", any of you that reguarly use
Songplayer - please explain this for me? I play my CDs,MP3s and my own
encoded MP2s with this great program. My audio leads are from the Amiga
itself. How am I getting excellant play back thro my Amiga? Surelly its not
Paula doing all the work! The CD audio is just as good a quality as if I
use my CD audio out ports.

I have a A1200T, 060/50 + 32meg. I have AHI but I know for a fact that
Songplayer is not using it! Just want to know as it is intreging me! (and
no - I dont have any sound cards)

Try this,mate
                First make sure that your time and date are correct so you
dont keep getting the requesters on starting.Go into the Diary Event
Details menu.You will see Alarm Options.Click on "Repeat".Change the menu
that is now presented to "Repeat every (1) day". You can also choose
"Untill" for how long you want it repeated. Just make sure that you set the
alarm sound path.
